3 Types Of Floor Tiles For The Modern Home

Limestone
Limestone is composed of marine sediment and calcium carbonate, which over time has become compressed to create solid stone that often has striking markings and can even contain fossilised shells. Limestone comes in a variety of colours, such as ochre, dusty pink, red, grey, blue and dark brown. The texture of limestone can also range from fine to coarse and granular, and quartz or dolomite crystals can be seen in some limestone flooring, which reflects light beautifully. Limestone tiles containing dolomite can be polished to create a high level of shine, and these tiles are ideal for formal rooms or opening up small spaces, such as entrance halls. The variety in style and the durability of limestone makes it an easy material to work with when designing a home or when wishing to replace flooring without worrying about it clashing with existing décor.
Ceramic
There are two main types of ceramic floor tiles and both are made from quarried clay. Non-porcelain ceramic tiles are a cost-effective flooring option that need to be sealed every once and a while to prevent moisture penetration occurring. They are ideal for low footfall areas, such as adult bedrooms. Porcelain ceramic tiles are denser than their non-porcelain counterpart, and this makes them more durable and blocks moisture from penetrating into the stone and causing erosion. Although not as durable as limestone flooring, porcelain ceramic tiles can be used in any room of your home and don't mark easily, so there's no need to worry about scratches from pet claws or toys being dragged across the floor.
Marble
Like limestone, there is natural variability in the composite minerals that compress to create marble, so marble tiles are available in a variety of colours to complement your home décor. Marble is an elegant stone and a more expensive option than both ceramic and limestone. Marble can be used in any room in your home, but you will have to seal your marble tiles around once a year. They are a highly durable and long-lasting flooring option, which some may feel offsets the initial cost.
